Instructions and rubric

Every circle, canto by canto

Click your way down the nine circles of the Inferno. Each circle gives the cantos, the guardian, the punishment as Dante describes it, and the souls he names, beside the engravings Gustave Doré made for it. The map also marks how far down we have come. Opens in a new tab.

Practice for each Inferno quiz

It asks what the quiz asks: for each place in Hell, the sin, the contrapasso, the souls Dante names, the guardian, and the cantos. A wrong answer comes back until you have it, and tells you which canto to reread. It uses the same facts as the Map of Hell and nothing more. Opens in a new tab.

Cantos XIV to XXIII, one page

Place by place: the sin, the canto, who Dante meets, and the lines to reread. The second part lists the topics the quiz asks about, with the lines for each. Print it, or keep it open while you reread with a pencil in hand.
